Surrounded by green hills and royal palaces, Lake Pichola in Udaipur was a feast for the eyes in monsoon.
This wasn't the bright, full of sunshine Rajasthan I had seen in pictures.
Cool breeze, mist, clouds kissing the verdant greenery of Aravalli Range and a full lake teased me to stay outdoors forever. Heavy downpours, however, would force me to pack off and take shelter very often.
Playing hide and seek with the rain had its rewarding moments every time it would throw dramatic surprises.
Below are some of the magical moments captured around Lake Pichola.
I used Canon 6D and Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM lens. Pictures were shot on Silk Pro tripod with Manfrotto ball head
Lake Pichola and Jag Mandir in evening twilight - It was raining, and the timer wasn't enough for me to run on the wet floor and reach the other side for a selfie. I did not have a remote switch either and had to settle with this.
Exposed for 5 secs @39 mm ISO 100, Aperture f/8.0
Jag Mandir - The hills had sprung to life in monsoon. Does this remind you of Western Ghat in rains?
Exposed for 1.3 secs @70 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/10. Used Hoya NDx64 to allow for more exposure time.
The city was still asleep. These steps led me to Lake Pichola and its breathtaking beauty in dawn.
Exposed for 20 secs @25 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/7.1
Lake Pichola at the break of dawn- Soaked in rain, mist and clouds
Exposed for 13 secs @55 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/8.0
Did not see orange ball rise up the horizon because of clouds. But some colors did show up during sunrise.
Exposed for 4 secs @35 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/18. Used Lee Graduated Neutral density filter (soft edge) to block light in the sky by 3 stops and prevent its over exposure.
Oberoi Udaivilas at night - The rain stopped momentarily. Calm water allowed for beautiful reflections
Exposed for 13 secs @50 mm ISO 100, Aperture f/7.1
Oberoi Udaivilas - Thunderstorm and rain followed by filtered sunlight. Perfect time to shoot ! This isn't meant to be a promotional post for the hotel but the property is one of the highlights of Lake Pichola and it would have been unfair to not share this image.
Exposed for 2.5 secs @24 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/8.0. Used Hoya NDx64 to allow for higher exposure time. When nature dynamics are at play, high shutter speed is undesirable.
View of Lake Pichola from Bada Mahal
Monsoon and lush greenery abound
Exposed for .6 secs @24 mm ISO 50, Aperture f/8.0. Used Hoya NDx64 to allow for higher exposure time
Just in time! At Bada Mahal
Before sunrise.
The city enthralls its visitors. Who wouldn't want to hug loved ones? My best guess - mom and daughter.
