India’s own 9/11 came on 26th November 2008 which shook the world of Mumbaikars who always thought their city to be a safe paradise compared to some other cities in India. Although it was not a first terrorist strike on Mumbai but it was first time the entire city was under siege for 3 days by 10 gunmen of Lashkar-E-Taiba (LeT), a terrorist organization funded by Pakistan. The attack and siege was on some of Mumbai’s most iconic locations like Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus (erstwhile Victoria Terminus), Hotel Taj Mahal, Leopold café, Metro Cinema among others. Mumbai’s famous ATS (anti-terrorist squad) cop Hemant Karkare was shot dead among other police and security personnel. This attack filled Mumbaikars not just with anger but also with acute fear. This time “unshakeable Mumbai Spirit” shook at its foundation which Mumbai has never recovered from. Like 9/11 this attack also had its own conspiracy theories. The only difference was, while entire US stood together in the wake of 9/11, Indian politicians themselves started a slugfest.
In Dec 2010, Digvijay Singh, a very senior leader and general secretary of the ruling party, Indian National Congress, started a row by saying publicly that the attack was work of Hindu terrorists. He said in a statement that Karkare had called him 2 hours before his death (video) and said that his life was in danger due to probe in Malegaon blast. Since some Hindu outfits were under probe in this case, they were apparently threatening Karkare with his life, according to Singh. Karkare was in the midst of anti-terror operations during the time when Singh claims he talked to him. Karkare had time to talk to Singh in such detailed manner during an intense operation surely doesn’t appeal to the logic. This statement of Singh created a huge political storm in the country expectedly.
Undeterred by the storm, Singh then went on to release a book called “26/11 RSS Ki Saazish” (which translate to 26/11 was a conspiracy by RSS) in 2013. He made some stinging statements against RSS in the press conference following the book release. I quote him from the video, “… good work by RSS gets diluted when its cadre, with RSS connivance, indulge in act of terror.” He also clearly connected RSS to 26/11 saying it played a supporting role in the terror attack.
As they say, truth cannot stay veiled for too long. The current ongoing video hearing of arrested terrorist David Headley has brought forward the truth about 26/11. David Headley has himself confessed of being part of the planning for 26/11 terror attack. He visited Mumbai multiple times and befriended some of the highly connected celebrities to gain access to information he was seeking for a perfect planning. Incidentally he also befriended son of a Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt, who was present in the book release of “26/11 RSS ki Saazish”. Headley was getting instructions from top brass of LeT. He has also confessed to be being in touch with some ISI officials and Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of many anti-India operations. Headley has revealed the entire modus operandi of the 26/11 attack. His confession and corroborative evidences available with Indian intelligence leave no doubt about the identity of perpetrators of 26/11. The conspiracy theories like “26/11 RSS ki Saazish” have been left completely exposed on facts and also on the motivation of these theorists like Singh.
Although the truth is now out in the open, the Congress eco-system will not accept it and they will make all attempts to discredit the facts. In fact the congress leaders and friendly media have already started questioning the authenticity of Headley’s claims. This needs to be strongly countered by Government and RSS both. In fact it is in order for RSS to slam a case of criminal defamation on Singh and the author of above mentioned book on 26/11. The court proceedings and decision will ensure that congress eco-system doesn’t succeed in putting baseless allegations of terrorist activities on RSS over and over again. On the other hand if RSS goes soft on this, a wrong message might go to people.
Truth has been revealed by Headley in another contentious incident. It involved encounter killing of three terrorists by Gujarat Police including a female terrorist called Ishrat Jahan. This case was used by UPA government and media to harass the then Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah. In fact the witch hunt was so severe that in order to prove Modi was anti-Muslim, some of the leaders and journalists went to a ridiculous extent. While an eminent journalist Sagarika Ghose called Ishrat a “moon faced teenager from Mumbra” in her article, Bihar CM Nitish called her “Bihar ki beti” (daughter of Bihar). The platitudes used by eminent intellectuals for Ishrat went on from being banal to outright funny over time.
‘The eco-system’ was first shocked after Headley revealed that Ishrat was actually a LeT suicide bomber. It then quickly recovered to question authenticity of Headley’s claims. Fair enough! Headley was a terrorist himself and his statements are no gospel truth and it’s the job of intelligence agencies to dig out corroborative evidences. However, one can logically link Ishrat to suspicious activities due to following facts –
1.She was in same car with proven terrorists.
2.She had visited several places in UP before coming to Gujarat with these terrorists.
3.And of course the recent confession of Headley
So she was not exactly the “moon faced teenager”, that Ms Ghose wants us to believe. Ishrat had been already exonerated by media long ago without any trial by court. Even today they refuse to see any indication of her being a terrorist. Adept as our media and so called liberals are in changing the goal posts, they are now questioning the encounter with “even if she was a terrorist”.
Right or wrong, police across Indian states commits encounter killing. Between 2009 and 2013, NHRC has recorded 555 cases of alleged fake encounters in which 138 are from UP and Gujarat didn’t even appear among top 5 states in the list. None of these ‘fake’ encounters made to front pages of newspapers except Ishrat’s case. It surely indicates a witch hunt.
Based on Headley’s confessions, government should follow up this case and ensure that the true facts are brought out about Ishrat, otherwise ‘the eco-system’ will keep repeating its lies ad-nauseam.
