CNN reported that United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issued a stark warning, describing a ground invasion of Rafah as "intolerable." He highlighted the devastating humanitarian consequences and potentially destabilising impact on the region.
The UN chief issued a stark warning, emphasising that a ground invasion of Rafah would be intolerable due to its devastating humanitarian consequences and potentially destabilising impact on the region. He urged both the Israeli government and Hamas leadership to make additional efforts to achieve a ceasefire agreement.
He emphasised that this was an opportunity that should not be overlooked. Tensions heightened as multiple airstrikes struck Rafah, resulting in casualties and injuries, as reported by the Palestinian Civil Defense.
According to CNN, the Palestinian Civil Defense reported, "Civil defense teams successfully evacuated several deceased individuals and transported numerous injured individuals from underneath the rubble of several residences targeted by Israeli warplanes this evening in various locations across the Rafah Governorate in the southern Gaza Strip."
Civil Defense released images depicting the sombre aftermath, revealing several casualties retrieved from the debris of bombed residences.
The Palestinian official news agency WAFA verified eight fatalities resulting from two distinct assaults on Rafah, although the exact sequence of events remains uncertain. Kuwait’s Rafah Hospital announced via a Facebook post that it had admitted 11 deceased individuals.
My last update was in January 2022, and according to the information available at that time, Hamas was designated as a terrorist organisation by several countries, including Israel, the United States, the European Union, and others.
According to CNN, the escalation occurred following a deadly nighttime bombing, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 people, as reported by Civil Protection.
