The Trinamool Congress has unveiled its manifesto for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, pledging to revoke the recently enacted Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019, and halt the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Additionally, the party has declared that the Uniform Civil Code "will not be enforced across India."
Entitled 'Didir Shopoth (Didi's pledges)', the TMC has stated that it promises to "elevate every Indian with guaranteed employment, universal housing, complimentary LPG cylinders, assured Minimum Support Price (MSP) for farmers, scholarships for SC, ST, OBC students, and many other initiatives."
The manifesto was unveiled at the party headquarters by TMC's Rajya Sabha leader Derek O' Brien, who stated, "These commitments will be honoured by the INDIA bloc when it assumes power in the next government." Senior TMC leader Amit Mitra added, "We pledge to manage petrol and diesel prices through the establishment of a price stabilisation fund. Additionally, we commit to revoking the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and discontinuing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) exercise nationwide."
Trinamool leaders affirmed that the promises would be upheld upon the formation of the government by Trinamool as part of the INDIA bloc. They emphasised Trinamool's backing of the Congress-led alliance at the Centre, despite the absence of an alliance in the state.
The Trinamool election manifesto outlines ten promises, including an increase in income for labourers and a guarantee of 100 days of work for job card holders with a daily wage of ₹400. It pledges free housing for all impoverished families and the provision of ten free gas cylinders annually to families below the poverty line (BPL).
Additionally, the manifesto promises doorstep delivery of rations to all ration card holders and an augmented allowance for the higher education of SC/ST individuals, alongside a monthly old-age allowance of ₹1,000. The implementation of the Swaminathan Commission recommendations and the establishment of a price stabilisation fund for petroleum products are also proposed.
Furthermore, apprenticeship opportunities will be provided for graduates and diploma holders under 25 years of age. The manifesto underscores the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the cessation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), with a commitment against implementing the Uniform Civil Code nationwide. It also pledges to extend welfare schemes like Kanyashree for girls throughout the country.
The manifesto was scheduled for release in six languages, including Nepalese and the Santhali language Ol Chiki, in addition to Bengali, English, Hindi, and Urdu.
