Reliance Jio overtakes China mobile as world's largest mobile operator in data traffic

Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries Limited, voiced his contentment with Reliance Jio's achievement, as it has surpassed China Mobile to become the world's leading mobile operator in data traffic.
Jio unveiled its quarterly results, highlighting the milestone attained. According to a press release, the total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 Exabytes, marking a 35.2 percent year-on-year increase. Additionally, Jio boasts a robust and extensive subscriber base of 481.8 million.
Ambani expressed satisfaction with the initiatives across RIL's businesses, noting their significant contribution to the growth of various sectors of the Indian economy. He highlighted the robust financial and operating performance across all segments, which enabled the company to achieve multiple milestones. Ambani proudly announced that Reliance became the first Indian company to surpass the ₹100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits this year.
He highlighted that Jio leads the 5G transformation in India with over 108 million True 5G customers. He noted Jio's role in upgrading 2G users to smartphones and leading the production of AI-driven solutions, which strengthens the nation's digital infrastructure.
Jio has spearheaded a transformation in the telecommunications sector, replacing 2G with 5G and witnessing a significant surge in smartphone and internet users. The escalating numbers underscore the growing reliance on digital connectivity, highlighting its increasing relevance and importance.
Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, annual data traffic has surged by 2.4 times, with monthly per capita data usage soaring to 28.7 GB from a mere 13.3 GB three years ago. Additionally, Jio has achieved the milestone of becoming the first Indian company to surpass the ₹100,000-crore threshold in pre-tax profits.
