Prime Minister Narendra Modi alleged that the late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi eliminated the inheritance tax to avoid sharing his inherited property with the government. Speaking at a rally in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi accused the Congress of seeking to reintroduce the tax.
"The facts concerning Inheritance Tax are revealing," he stated. "Upon the passing of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, her children were set to inherit her property. However, under previous regulations, a portion of the property was taken by the government before it could be inherited by the children. To prevent the property from being seized by the government, the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi abolished the Inheritance Tax law."
The Rajiv Gandhi government abolished the inheritance law in 1985, as stated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi accused the Congress of seeking to seize people's jewellery and small savings by scrutinising their properties and valuables.
He also criticised Congress for engaging in religious appeasement, specifically citing the provision of reservations to Muslims. PM Modi highlighted the instance of the Congress government in Karnataka declaring all Muslims in the state as OBC. He alleged that this action resulted in the dilution of reservations for the existing OBC community in education and government employment.
PM Narendra Modi asserted that for Congress, prioritising the family always took precedence. He highlighted that the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh brought about a transformative change in the Chambal region.
PM Modi criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for allegedly insulting him and expressed discontent over such language being directed towards the country's Prime Minister. He urged everyone not to feel disheartened, stating that the BJP represents those who work diligently, contrasting with the Congress' "Naamdar" label.
PM Modi accused the Congress of unlawfully including Muslims in the OBC list in Karnataka, asserting that his government does not discriminate on religious grounds. He emphasised that his administration provided free rations to 80 crore people without bias, contrasting with the Congress' purported favouritism towards Muslims.
PM Narendra Modi sparked controversy by alleging that the Congress had pledged in its manifesto to seize people's hard-earned money and redistribute it among Muslims.
