Security forces in Pakistan's Balochistan have shot dead three terrorists in an Intelligence-based Operation (IBO), as reported by Dawn, citing the military’s media wing.
The incident occurred in Balochistan’s Pishin district. According to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation took place last night based on reports of terrorists being present in the area.
The ISPR stated, ”During the operation, following intense exchange of fire, three terrorists were killed, while one terrorist, identified as an Afghan national, was apprehended in injured condition."
Dawn reported that the ISPR further stated that a substantial cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives was recovered during the operation.
Additionally, security forces killed two alleged terrorists and injured several others in a gun battle in the district the previous day.
The local administration received information about the presence of terrorists in the Sanzalai mountain range of Pishin, after which they planned an operation, officials said.
According to Dawn, officials of the Frontier Corps (North) claimed that the terrorists had crossed into Pishin from Afghanistan and established their pickets on top of the hills.
Pakistan has experienced a surge in terrorist activities over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the termination of the ceasefire between the government and the banned group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November 2022.
According to an annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan recorded 1,524 fatalities related to violence and 1,463 injuries from 789 terrorist attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023. This marks a six-year high, as reported.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan emerged as the primary centres of violence, with over 90 percent of all fatalities and 84 percent of attacks attributed to incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.
