HD Revanna, the Janata Dal (Secular) party leader, was arrested by officials from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in Karnataka this Saturday. This arrest is related to a kidnapping case lodged against him at the KR Nagar police station in Bengaluru.
The arrest comes after the rejection of his anticipatory bail plea by the court, news agency PTI reported. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara disclosed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) had issued a lookout notice against Revanna.
According to PTI, Parameshwara stated, "It (lookout notice) has been issued against him (Revanna) already... anticipating that Revanna may also plan to go abroad, it has been done."
A similar notice has been issued against Prajwal, who has reportedly already left the country.
Revanna was taken in custody at the residence of his father, H D Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister. The victim, who was allegedly kidnapped on April 29, was traced at a farmhouse in Hunsur, Mysuru district. She was brought to Bengaluru by the SIT officials.
Following the hearing of HD Revanna's anticipatory bail plea regarding a kidnapping case filed in K R Nagar, Mysuru district, the court reserved its decision until the next hearing. Despite Revanna's advocate requesting interim relief, the Court dismissed the plea and scheduled the matter for May 6. This action cleared the path for the SIT to arrest HD Revanna.
Meanwhile, HD Revanna has been charged with kidnapping in relation to the 'obscene video' case. This legal action stems from a complaint filed by the son of a woman who was purportedly "abducted and sexually abused."
In his complaint filed to KR Nagar police in Mysuru, the man said his mother worked as a housemaid at HD Revanna's home for six years before returning to her village, where she worked as a daily wage labourer.Top of Form
The man later discovered a video allegedly depicting the sexual abuse of his mother by sitting MP and Hassan Lok Sabha candidate PrajwalRevanna. He said that soon after the video was revealed, his mother went missing. He then filed a kidnapping complaint against HD Revanna and Babanna.
The Holenarsipura MLA and his associate were booked under Sections 364A (kidnapping for ransom), 365 (kidnapping with intent to cause harm), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC. The FIR, registered by KR Nagar police, also lists HD Revanna as accused number one and another man, identified as Babanna, as accused number two.
The FIR was lodged just hours before HD Revanna's anticipatory bail plea was scheduled for a hearing in the Special Court for People's Representatives in Bengaluru on Friday. He skipped the summons to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on May 2 for questioning.
The SIT officials are also learnt to have issued a notice to BhavaniRevanna, wife of H D Revanna, to appear before SIT officials for questioning when required.
