EAM Jaishankar meets Malaysian PM, commends vision for India-Malaysia relations

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar visited Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, where he conveyed his admiration for Anwar's vision to enhance bilateral ties between India and Malaysia.
During the meeting, Jaishankar also delivered warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Anwar Ibrahim.
The External Affairs Minister also stressed that this vision would act as a catalyst for shaping a more ambitious agenda to promote the relationship between the two nations. Jaishankar highlighted that he greatly benefited from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s guidance and insights on regional developments during their interaction.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar stated, "It is an honour to have met with Prime Minister @anwaribrahim of Malaysia. I conveyed the warm greetings of PM @narendramodi. His vision for strengthening ties between India and Malaysia, in both traditional and contemporary areas, will aid us in developing a more ambitious agenda for the relationship. I gained valuable insights and guidance on regional developments from him."
After concluding his two-nation tour to Singapore and the Philippines, Jaishankar arrived in Malaysia and commenced his visit by meeting his Malaysian counterpart, Mohamad Haji Hasan.
The two leaders discussed various aspects of collaboration, including political, economic, defence, digital, startup, consular, and people-to-people linkages.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar stated, "Delighted to have met FM @tokmatn9 to kickstart my visit to Malaysia. We exchanged views on enhancing collaboration in political, economic, defence, digital, startups, consular, and people-to-people linkages. We also shared perspectives on the region, including the Indo-Pacific, West Asia, and Ukraine. As we approach the completion of a decade of our Enhanced Strategic Partnership, I look forward to further strengthening our engagements."
The ministers also deliberated on arranging high-level visits and scheduling the 7th Joint Commission Meeting of Malaysia and India on a mutually agreeable date.
As per the statement, this marked the first encounter between Jaishankar and Hasan since the latter assumed office in December 2023.
According to the foreign ministry, Jaishankar is also set to meet Minister of Digital Gobind Singh Deo. His visit is aimed at bolstering cooperation between India and Malaysia and improving understanding of shared challenges and opportunities. The statement emphasized that Malaysia and India have a longstanding and substantive relationship, characterised by strong economic partnerships and close people-to-people ties.
