Officials reported that a total of 54 trains on the Ambala-Amritsar route had been cancelled due to farmers occupying the tracks at Shambhu railway station in Punjab's Patiala district for the fourth consecutive day. The protestors are demanding the release of three farmers arrested by Haryana Police during the ongoing stir.
Authorities stated that the protest has disrupted the operations of 380 trains over the past three days, leading to inconvenience for passengers. The farmers, rallying under the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), continue their demonstration in Shambhu, Patiala district.
The protest commenced as farmers took to squatting on the tracks along the Ambala-Ludhiana-Amritsar route in Shambhu, near the Punjab-Haryana border, demanding the release of the detained farmers. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher asserted that the protest would persist until the three farmers are released.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) are leading the 'Delhi Chalo' march, wherein farmers are marching towards Delhi to exert pressure on the government to meet their demands. These demands primarily include securing a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for agricultural crops.
Since February 13, farmers have maintained their presence at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points situated between Punjab and Haryana. They began this sit-in after their march towards Delhi was halted by security forces.
The prolonged protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points underscores the steadfast determination of farmers in Punjab and Haryana to assert their demands. As the standoff continues, it reflects the ongoing tensions between agricultural workers and the government, highlighting the unresolved issues surrounding agricultural reforms and the demand for legal assurances on Minimum Support Price (MSP).
The ongoing protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points underscores the determination of farmers in their demands, particularly regarding the legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops. As tensions persist and the protest continues, authorities face mounting challenges in resolving the situation and addressing the grievances of the protesting farmers.
