Travelogue

After capital city Jaipur, Jodhpur is second largest city in this state. It has lot to offer in terms of culture, heritage, and monuments to tourists of different tastes.  This city is also the gateway to the Thar Desert. The travel plan of every tourist has some provisions for shopping.

Rajasthan desert is part of Thar desert of NW India covering the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat & Haryana. Total area of desert is 3.21 lac sq.kms. This is essentially sandy desert with few stony areas in between, but 61% of desert area is covered in state of Rajasthan. In the non-rainy days desert presents a very boring view to an onlooker.

Indianized kingdoms, which flourished in the SE Asia centuries back, have left a lasting Hindu legacy in the present day countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, and Laos. Vietnam has its representative in the My Son temple complex. In this travelogue, I will be writing about my travel to My Son temple complex located in Central Vietnam, about an hour from Hoi An by bus.

It was my long standing wish to visit this amazing lake and enjoy the breathtaking view of this Deep Blue Lake. My wish finally came true when my wife and I took a trip to the lake during the 4th of July weekend. I am talking about the world famous Crater Lake.

Being the spouse of an academic geek has its rewards. The latest one I got was an opportunity to tag along with him to a week-long Conference hosted by European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering (ECOMAS).

Bali, Indonesia is a place with a blend of culture, architecture and beautiful beaches, which makes it ideal for the tourists to visit. And it is a perfect place for an inexpensive vacation. Beyond the popular tourist spots like Kuta and Nusa Dua, the people’s lives for ages have been defined by their cultural heritage including their religion.

Mount Bromo (meaning Brahma in Javanese, the Indian God) is one of the many volcanoes located in Eastern Java, Indonesia. It is an active volcano and along with a vast plain called Sea of the Sands (Javanese call it as Segara Wedi or Lautan Pasir in Indonesian Bahasa) is part of Bromo Tengger Semeru national park.

As we headed to Goa’s lesser known neighbor – Gokarna, my hubby and I kept a watch out for that coastline with the hope of spotting a blue bed of lashing waves.  Our resort – Kudle Beach View, promised us that they were located right next to the beach and yet my Google Maps showed me that it was not really the case.

I consider myself lucky to have travelled extensively across India in the process of which I discovered many breathtaking places which can give some foreign locales a run for their money. Very rarely in life, you make that one unforgettable trip which is a riveting experience and a revelation of sorts. Like any other travel junkie, I have a bucket list of places in India which I want to visit.

Amongst all the lovely monuments in Hampi, I found the Vittala temple to be the most fascinating – one that I feel I did not have enough of, one that I would love to go back and explore all over again. Known as a temple with musical pillars, I feel there is a lot more to temple.

The very first thought of छठ-पर्व (Chhath Parv) makes me nostalgic. It reminds me of my mother (Maa) who had been observing "Chhath" for last three decades.

Durga Puja is more than a mere celebration of the triumph of good over evil. Significantly enough, among the Bengalis all over the world, the essence of Durga Puja is unique in many aspects. Neither can one find those Garba dance formations nor the burning of the effigies of Ravana in this time of the year.

During a recent visit to Turkey, I was getting ready to pay my bill, and was just assembling money on the table, and something caught my eye suddenly. It was a mathematic equation on one side of a 10 TL (Turkish Lira) note!

A long standing wish on my bucket list was to visit my ancestral hometown which I could luckily strike off recently when I took a trip to Thanjavur.

Surrounded by green hills and royal palaces, Lake Pichola in Udaipur was a feast for the eyes in monsoon.
This wasn't the bright, full of sunshine Rajasthan I had seen in pictures.

One of the biggest advantages of living in Europe is you are blessed with the opportunity to visit many countries. One such visit to Venice and Rome holds a very special place in my heart because it was our honeymoon. Rome and Venice have been the theme of many historical and romantic Hollywood movies which enticed us to choose Italy as our first holiday destination together as a couple.

In the city of Siem Reap, Cambodia, we (a group of 4) were introducing ourselves to the tour guide in the hotel lobby. My introduction was uneventful. The guide's expression changed when my wife introduced herself. I was sure she found the name difficult to pronounce, so I tried to offer help!

In the latest ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, in an attempt to boost India’s tourism, encouraged people to share pictures from India with the hashtag #IncredibleIndia. This drew a fantastic response on Twitter where many enthusiastically participated in this trend by posting photos from across India.
