In response to the numerous sanctions imposed upon it, Russia has decided to stop the supply of rocket engines to United States.
Dmitry Rogozin, head of the state space agency Roscosmos, said on Thursday, "In a situation like this we can't supply the United States with our world's best rocket engines. Let them fly on something else, their broomsticks, I don't know what". In addition to this, Russia has also decided to no longer offer servicing to the rocket engines that it already delivered to the US.
Roscosmos had bluntly threatened that it would not carry out all of its international obligations related to the space sector owing to the restrictions. Rogozin considered cyberattacks by Ukrainian hackers on Roscosmos' website are an 'act of war'.
The US, in coordination with allies and partners, had imposed numerous sanctions against Russia, targeting the core infrastructure of the Russian financial system. Earlier, Russia had said it was suspending cooperation with Europe on space launches from the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana as a response to the sanctions imposed by the Europe over Ukrainian invasion.
Rogozin noted that the sanctions would not be enough to stop them. "The Europeans have repeated these sanctions. It is quite obvious that their intention is to bring down the Russian rocket and Russian space industry. We consider this a war declared against us". He said Russia would now focus on creating dual-purpose spacecraft in line with the needs of Roscosmos and the Defence Ministry.
