Police station set on fire and Shiva temple vandalised by illegal encroachers in separate incidents in Assam

In an unfortunate incident, unidentified miscreants vandalized Shiva Temple and Ganesha Temple by damaging the idols in the Bhetapara area of Guwahati on Tuesday night.
The incident came to light after some priests along with devotees reached the temple this morning and found the idols of Lord Shiva and Ganesha broken.
The idols and the Shiva Linga were then thrown out of the temple.
Meanwhile, local residents, who discovered the idols and Shiva Linga lying near a rivulet, adjacent to the temple early on Wednesday morning, immediately informed the local police.
Upon receiving the information, a police team from the nearby Basistha police station reached the spot and launched an investigation into the matter. Police have launched a massive manhunt to identify and nab the culprits.
Meanwhile, the local residents have started the repair work of the temples and the damaged idols.
In another case, Assam Police detained 15 people and seven were arrested on Sunday in connection with the police station torching case in Nagaon. A mob set Batadrava police station on fire in Nagaon district after a man allegedly died in police custody on Saturday.

On Sunday morning, bulldozers reached the village, about 6 km from the police station, and demolished most of the houses of those who were involved in setting fire to the police station.
A mob of about 50-60 people from Salonabori village had set fire to the Batadrava police station in Dhing area on Saturday afternoon.
