Jaishankar's visit to Japan aims to enhance special strategic and global partnership

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar concluded his three-day visit to Japan, engaging in meetings and interactions with numerous top leaders. The Ministry of External Affairs disclosed in a press release that the discussions aimed to explore avenues for significantly elevating the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two nations.
The External Affairs Minister met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, extending greetings from Prime Minister Modi. During the meeting, he updated Kishida on recent advancements within the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, and solicited his advice on enhancing the bilateral relationship further.
Jaishankar conducted the 16th India-Japan Strategic Dialogue with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa.
During the dialogue, the two leaders extensively discussed various aspects of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering political exchanges, trade, investment, infrastructure, and technology collaboration, developmental coordination, defence and security cooperation, as well as cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
The two ministers agreed to adapt the relationship to meet current needs and enhance mutual understanding between the two nations. Their conversation encompassed various areas of cooperation, including the development of semiconductor ecosystems, green technologies, defence equipment and technology, digital payments, mobility arrangements, and the promotion of the Japanese language in India.
Additionally, they discussed regional matters of mutual interest in the Indo-Pacific region and major global developments, as stated by the MEA.
Jaishankar met with several senior political leaders, including Taro Aso, Vice President of LDP; Toshimitsu Motegi, Secretary General of LDP and Yoshihide Suga, Chairman of Japan India Association. These meetings revealed strong expressions of support for bilateral partnerships.
During the visit, Jaishankar met with Akie Abe and delivered a letter from Prime Minister Modi expressing his condolences over the passing of Madam Yoko Abe, the mother of the late Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe.
During his visit, EAM Jaishankar engaged with a diverse range of public figures and opinion leaders in Japan.
He participated in the inaugural Raisina Roundtable in Tokyo, where he delivered a speech on India-Japan bilateral relations within the broader context of evolving global trends. The EAM also spoke at the Nikkei Forum on the India-Japan partnership, discussing the historical and current trajectories of the relationship and exploring new possibilities.
"The EAM's visit to Japan provided a timely opportunity to assess the ongoing bilateral cooperation and explore ways to enhance the Special Strategic and Global Partnership between the two countries, especially as it enters its 10th year," the MEA statement highlighted.
