An FIR has been filed against actress Kangana Ranaut for an Instagram story in which she referred to the entire Sikh community as Khalistani terrorists and said Indira Gandhi trampled them under her foot "like mosquitoes."
Manjinder Singh Sirsa, leader of the Akali Dal, filed a case against the actress for her remarks. A news agency reports that Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (of which Sirsa, the president, is a member) claimed Ranaut had "intentionally" and "deliberately" depicted the farmers protest as a "Khalistani movement."
In an Instagram story today, Ranaut said, "Khalistani terrorists may be arm twisting the government today. But let's not forget one woman. The only woman prime minister ne inn ko apni jooti ke niche crush kia tha (The only woman prime minister crushed them under her shoe). No matter how much suffering she caused to this nation she crushed them like mosquitoes at the cost of her own life Lekin desh ke tukde nahi hone diye (but didn't let the country disintegrate) even after decades of her death aaj bhi uske naam se kaampte hai yeh inko vaisa he guru chahiye (even today, they shiver at her name, they need a guru like her)."
Next to this, there was a picture of Indira Gandhi with the caption, "With Khalistanis on the march, Indira Gandhi's story will be more relevant than ever, bringing Emergency". Additionally, she referenced a movie called "Emergency," but her remarks about Sikhs and Operation Blue Star in 1984 did not sit well with the audience.
The actress had been outspoken about her support for the ruling BJP government before posting these just a day after three controversial farm laws were repealed following grueling protests by farmers.
Prime Minister Modi apologized as he retracted the laws on Friday, just before the assembly elections in states that are important for agriculture, such as Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
Several times, Ranaut's remarks regarding the movement have been met with controversy for being avid supporter of the laws. According to a report from sources, Ranaut's complaint was filed at Delhi's Mandir Marg Police Station's cyber cell.
"Derogatory and insulting language" was used against the Sikh community by the actor, the Gurdwara committee said in a statement. According to the statement, "(she) further referred to the Sikh community as Khalistani Terrorists and she recalled the genocide and massacres in 1984 and earlier as planned and calculated moves on the part of (late former prime minister) Indira Gandhi."
The actress was also criticized recently for her comment that India gained true independence after 2014, and the freedom gained by the country in 1947 was "bheek".
