According to Delhi Police, an FIR has been filed against unidentified individuals for the alleged unauthorized removal of confidential records from the Directorate of Vigilance. The incident is said to have occurred under the purported influence of AAP Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj. The police took this action on Friday in response to the reported incident.
In a statement, the police confirmed that the action was initiated based on a complaint lodged by the Special Secretary of Vigilance.
The police stated, “Taking cognizance of false complaints against the Special Secretary and unauthorized removal of confidential records during night hours in the Directorate of Vigilance, Delhi Police has registered an FIR on the Factual Report submitted by Special Secretary (Vigilance), the government of NCT of Delhi.”
Delhi Police has revealed that sensitive records and vigilance matters pertaining to inquiries involving high-profile individuals and officials were reportedly removed from the Directorate of Vigilance office. These vigilance matters were at various stages of inquiry, as stated by the police.
The removed records and cases encompass a range of issues, including charge sheets from the Excise Department, papers related to the Chief Minister's Residence, inquiries concerning Directorate of Information and Publicity payments, matters related to the Delhi Jal Board, investigations into gold theft in the Trade and Taxes Department, the alleged nexus between prison officials and a Minister of Prison, demolition of a heritage structure by the former CEO of DJB, and matters concerning the Feedback Unit.
As per the police statement, the investigation brought to light that certain actions were undertaken to hinder the ongoing inquiries, accompanied by the generation of a false note by Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj. This note alleged an extortion racket against the Special Secretary overseeing the investigations, leading to the Special Secretary being relieved of his duties. Subsequently, the police reported that following the directions of Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj, the room of the Special Secretary (Vigilance) was unlawfully entered during the night of May 15-16, with the intention to tamper with the records in a malicious manner.
The police also mentioned that, according to the factual report, an advocate submitted a complaint to Saurabh Bhardwaj on behalf of an NGO, which was subsequently found to be false and fabricated.
The factual report, as per Delhi Police, emphasized the need for an investigation to safeguard the public interest and prevent further harm to the Directorate of Vigilance and the Special Secretary himself.
