In a recent development, the Delhi government has granted permission for the registration of BS VI compliant diesel vehicles. According to an official order issued on 23rd June, this allowance is specifically applicable when these vehicles are being utilized for services associated with the G20 Summit. This decision by the Delhi government aims to facilitate the smooth functioning of services related to the summit.
Earlier, in March, the apex court made a significant decision by allowing the registration of BS VI light and heavy diesel vehicles. This permission was specifically granted to vehicles used for essential public services and public utility services. The court's ruling aimed to ensure the smooth operation of vital services necessary for the public.
Citing the judgment, the transport department, in an order issued earlier this week, stated, "the competent authority is pleased to allow the registration of the said BS VI compliant Diesel Vehicles, subject to submission of a proof of requisition by appropriate authorities such as Ministry of External Affairs or Embassies or Ministries or any other authority regarding the engagement of such vehicles for the purposes subservient to G20 Summit." This order highlights the requirement for relevant authorities to provide evidence of the need for these vehicles, particularly in relation to their utilization for G20 Summit-related purposes.
According to officials, the registration of diesel buses in the national capital has been hindered due to an order from the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT order was based on concerns regarding the escalating pollution levels in the region. As a result, the registration process for diesel buses has been affected, contributing to the restriction on their entry into the transportation fleet of the national capital.
Furthermore, the order also instructs registering authorities to carry out a thorough verification of requisitions submitted by registered owners regarding the engagement of vehicles for the G 20 Summit. This verification process is aimed at ensuring the authenticity of the requests before the vehicles are officially registered.
As a result of this directive, buses can now be registered in Delhi, subject to the condition that they will be specifically utilized for the purposes of the G 20 Summit. The implementation of this order aims to facilitate the smooth functioning of transportation services during the summit.
