Celebrating Indic Festivals in Japan: Dussehra-Milan in Tokyo Japan

"Dussehra-Milan" was organized by HSS Japan to utilize the auspicious occasion of "Vijaya-Dashmi" for connecting various Indo-Japanese organizations which are actively working in Japan for last few years including some senior Japanese personalities who are having close relation with India. During Dussehra Milan, HSS Japan, along with Embassy of India, has also celebrated 100th anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Honorable Ambassador of India, Shri Sujan R Chinoy & Mr Shimamura Kazushige, former Chairman of Edogawa Ward assembly were the Chief Guests along with other dignitaries including Shrimati Muanpuii Saiawii, First Secretary for Information, Education & Culture and Director of Vedic Cultur Center (in Indian Embassy Tokyo Premises). Miss World Japan (2016) Miss Priyanaka Yoshikawa also attended the event.
Children from four Balgokulams in Funabori, Ojima, Nishi Kasai and Kawasaki did scintillating performance before felicitation ceremony. These include Shloka chanting, Surya Namaskar, Thematic Yoga and Nratya-Natika on Ram Lila to grace the occasion.
This was followed by the felicitation of various community leaders for their contributions and activities for society as well as enabling cultural exchange between India & Japan. This include representatives from Bengal Association, Orissa community, Marathi Mandal, Telugu Sangham, Kannada group, Tamil & Kerala community, Principals of Indian schools in Tokyo & Kawasaki and several other Indian community leaders. Representatives of Jain Sangh, Sindhi community, Sikh community and many other organizations has also conveyed their greetings for the event. All the representatives of various organizations were felicitated by Tri-color stole & Books on selected quotes by Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay, kindly published by Ministry of External Affairs, India along with Ramayan Stamps, recently released by Honorable Prime Minister of India.
After the felicitation there was a brief presentation on various activities being executed by HSS Japan in four main area: 1) Sewa activities, 2) Cultural activities, 3) Shakha & Shivir and 4) Balgokulam activities which includes blood donation drives, clothe re-cycle drives, disaster relief operations, festivals, patriotic events, volunteer support for other Indian & Japanese organizations etc in various parts of Japan.
Honorable Ambassador of India, Shri Sujan R Chinoy delivered inspirational speech appreciating the HSS activities and an attempt to unite all the culturally active Indian organizations in Japan. He gave special recognition for the Balgokulam Children for matching high standards. Honorable Ambassador also highlighted how Indian ethos and Pt Deen Dayal Upadhaya’s vision can inspire us to unite and support each other for the development of the whole society. Honorable Ambassador quoted inspirational Sanskrit Shlokas during his speech to convey the message.
Japanese guests:
Dussehra-Milan was graced by the presence of many Japanese friends. Japanese followers of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose also joined who have been conducting various activities under "Team Netaji Japan" along with other Indian followers. This includes Mr Negishi Motoyuki, whose father worked as Liaison officer in Kolkata with Netaji during 1930s. Mr. Hiromitsu Sato, Executive Committee Member of Discover India Club has also attended the event. Mr Enomoto, representative of Nippon Kaigi (Japan Conference), Japan's biggest Nationalist group which has Honorable PM Shinzo Abe as its adviser, has also been felicitated by HSS Japan during the event. Mr Sugiyama Mitsumaru, great-grandson of Asian Nationalist leader Shri Sugiyama Shigemaru who has supported and protected Indian freedom fighter Shri Ras Bihari Bose in Japan from 1915 onward, has come all along from Fukuoka (more than 1000 kms away from Tokyo) to specially attend the Dussera Milan by HSS Japan. Mr Hiroshi Hirabayashi, former Ambassador of Japan to India, has also conveyed his greetings before the event as he could not join the Dussehra Milan.
